Inversion

I poison your image with love:
Cruel trickery and self-deceit
And you smile your upside-down smile
Which I read as understanding
But masks your conceit
And I believe your faux concern
Which later reenacts as inadvertent defeat.

In your attempts to beguile
You perform your duty of caring.
Ridicule marked as advice
Your arms embrace
As your heart spurns.
